Marco’s Cafe

Nice breakfast cafe menu, well prepared, big, hot and tasty (yes, breakfast, get your minds out of the gutter, boys…). I was there with the latest Breakfast Club UYE and showed up before the others.  While I was waiting out front, I got asked at least 5 times if I needed anything.  Nice!  Eventually, I went up to the bar to order while I continued to hang out.  I was sorely tempted by huckleberry pancakes or a bacon scramble, or roast beef hash, or… well, you get the point, but I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak.  As a Texas transplant, …Read the Rest

Daily Cafe : Portland

Daily Cafe has three locations. The first is deep inside a cavernous warehouse of a store that sells reproduction lighting and hardware on a dull stretch of Southeast Grand Avenue. The second is on the first floor of a medical building set in a prim condominium campus at the end …Read the Rest

Huber’s Cafe – Portland, OR

Turkey is at the heart of Huber’s menu; and while many customers still come to drink beer in the boisterous back room bar, it is still possible to sit in a quiet booth and have a bird-and-potatoes meal of moist, flavorful slices of white meat evenly arrayed on the plate …Read the Rest

Cup and Saucer – SE Portland

I’ve only been to one of the three Cup and Saucer restaurants in Portland, the Hawthorne location. Needless to say, for not only a Portland weekend but for one on busy Hawthorne, there is a wait for breakfast and brunch on the weekends. StumpTown – Read More>

Crescent Café – McMinnville

The four of us arrived at the Café around 10:30 on Sunday and put our name on the list to be seated. There is no real waiting area so we waited outside in the cold watching all the diners inside enjoy their breakfast and coffee. One of the owners Michael …Read the Rest

Republic Cafe

Not for the faint of stomach, Republic Cafe dishes the greasy, crunchy slathered-in-that-weird-red-sauce American Chinese food that’s gonna land like a ton of calories in your gut.  And I don’t recall any signs about no MSG. Yelp – Read More>

Grand Central Bakery – Portland

As usual, I am marking the passing days of my life by the food that I eat. It has been a whirlwind of a few weeks with the sale of our condo (yeah!), the purchase of our new house (double yeah), preparations for our annual trip to visit family in …Read the Rest

Hush Hush Cafe – SW Portland

I don’t want to write this review of the Hush Hush Café. I know it’s my “job,” and my deadline is looming, but I’d really rather keep this one to myself. The tiny café is tucked into the corner of SW 4th and Washington, and it’s easy to imagine hundreds …Read the Rest

3 Doors Down – SE Portland

With all the wonderful restaurants in Portland, it was really difficult choosing just one for Valentine’s Day. I had my eye set on some of the newer restaurants in town but thankfully, I didn’t have to make that decision. Instead, E followed his friend’s advice and booked our date at …Read the Rest

Oasis Cafe Pizza – Portland – Hawthorne

The Oasis Cafe is on SE Hawthorne in Portland Oregon, just down the block from Powell’s, and across the street from the Bagdad theater. I love and hate this slice of Hawthorne. Love because of Powell’s and because there’s good people-watching and bustle and it’s groovy. Hate because it reminds …Read the Rest

Cadillac Cafe – Portland

With all the 5-star reviews already written for the Cadillac Cafe, I hesitated adding my two cents. What more can I say about greatness? I’d been before. I love the place. I thought ” What can I offer that’s unique and windswept in the review world for a place that …Read the Rest

Caffe Mingo – Beaverton

Fat shrimp, pink and sweet and gently charred with an ever-unexpected kick of red pepper flakes, alternating with crusty hunks of fire-crisped Italian bread, have long been a Mingo measurement. If the skewers were larger, they could stand outside the original Caffe Mingo and Mingo, its younger offshoot in Beaverton, …Read the Rest

The South Store Cafe

An addition here, a facelift there, a porch added, an extra room removed. You’d expect a few changes to have taken place in the century that the South Store has stood at the corner of Scholls Ferry Road and the Hillsboro Highway. However, through the years, one thing has remained …Read the Rest
